Do you love Halloween? It is a great way to have fun with your kids. Part of that fun is creating great looking costumes and dressing up together. Perhaps the only drawback is the cost. Buying the decorations, treats and costumes can add up to a lot of money. Fortunately, there are some easy ways to keep the costs under control. One of which is making your own costumes out of clothes that you already own
There are loads of dresses you can turn into a Halloween outfit. The chances are you already have something suitable in your wardrobe. If you do not you can usually ask a friend if they have what you need. Or find something affordable online or from a local charity shop. Transforming these old dresses is a lot of fun. Importantly, you do not necessarily need any special skills to be able to do it.
Dress as a witch
You could take a flowing black dress that you already own and add a few simple accessories to transform yourself into a witch. All you really need is a wig, witches hat, stripy tights, a black shawl, a pair of pointy black shoes and maybe a plastic nose and some makeup to look convincing. As you can see there is no sewing involved when you make this costume.
Create a cowgirl outfit
Creating a cowgirl outfit can be even easier. Just combine a pair of jeans, a check shirt, a vest top and cowboy boots with the right hat and you are good to go. For more authenticity pull your hair into two bunches or braids and put a red kerchief around your necks. If you really want to you can make yourself a pair of chaps using a piece of leatherette and elastic to hold them in place.
Turn a jumpsuit into a scary and fun Halloween costume
This year, jumpsuits came back into style, so I know that a lot of you will have one in your wardrobe. If you do not think you will want to wear it again, why not turn it into a skeleton costume. All you have to do is to dye your jumpsuit black, buy some duct tape and follow these simple instructions.
If you prefer, you can take your dyed jumpsuit and turn it into a convincing Catwoman costume. For this project, you will need to know how to sew and be able to spend quite a few hours making it.
Get the kids involved
If your children are old enough, getting them involved in making costumes for the family is a great way to spend some time together. They will love it and learn some great skills.
I really like these winter festivities because they are bright spots in what would otherwise be quite drab months. They also create opportunities for you to get out together as a family. As you can see from these photos picking pumpkins is great fun, although a family walk in the crunchy leaves is too! It is worth getting into the spirit of things at Halloween and creating some fantastic memories.
