Of all the things that you need to do when you have a baby on the way, designing their nursery is absolutely one of the most enjoyable. This is in part because it is such a sheer beautiful thing to be able to spend your time on, and because of what it means. If you are lucky enough to be having a baby with a partner whom you love, then there are few things in the world sweeter than the two of you designing the nursery together. Of course, you’ll want to get it right, and that means knowing what you need to have there.
Theme First
If you are really going all out, and you want the nursery to be as perfect as possible, then you might want to start with the theme. Having a theme is a useful way of bringing it all together, and generally, it is going to mean that you will find all of the remaining things you have to do a lot easier indeed. Whether it’s a space theme, a fairy theme, a Disney theme, or whatever else you might want to go for, it’s time to get a little creative – and don’t be afraid to go for a non-traditionally gendered one.
Essential Items
Remember that it’s not just about designing the actual room, but fitting it out with the essential items as well. You will want to think about this early on, as it might make a difference to how you are actually going to design the room itself. For instance, you will need to find a space to store all the nappies – and bear in mind that you might receive a lot of these in one fell swoop, especially if you have a baby shower. You will need space too for the cot, of course, and for the baby playmat, and any toys that you might be planning on buying. Consider all this stuff as early as possible, and planning will be much easier.
Decorating
This is probably the part that you had in mind at the start, and it is certainly the most exciting and interesting part of the whole process. Decorating the room together should be a real joy, and if it is then you will know that you are doing something right. With your chosen theme in mind, you can easily get to work on painting and decorating, and if you have allowed yourself enough time you can take it at a leisurely pace and really enjoy it.
Keep It Simple
All that being said, it’s important to try and keep the whole thing as simple as you can. The more complex it becomes, the more likely you are to end up with something that is too far away from what you initially dreamed of. The simpler you keep it, the more control you have over how it turns out, and the more likely it is to be a successful space for your baby. Simplicity really is the key in all such matters.
