npower want to celebrate the amazing super powers parents discover when they start caring for young babies and children; some of which are innate and others learned. You can enter to win a UK theme park resort break if you share your parenting super powers. See below for more details on how to enter.
What are your parenting super powers?
Have you seen that meme that says “I make milk, what’s your superpower?” well, I guess that’s one of mine, too. I say one of mine, because I have others, and I’m confident you have some or all of these too.
I can turn frowns into smiles
In this photo James had been all sad because he had been told that he was not allowed to take a stone home. It wasn’t a tiny, cute little pebble; it was a whopping great big boulder. But after a quick cuddle and a chat from me, he was off and smiling, on to the next thing.
I can float
Here I am, physically floating (not really, I’m sure you can see this is a glass floor), but metaphorically I float through scenarios that I think I might have struggled with before becoming a parent. Recently I took the boys to the beach by myself, and one of them fell in the water within moments of arriving. I needed to float through, deciding the action that needed to be taken and carrying it through. I floated through what could have been a terrible situation, keeping both children safe and warm, and getting them back to the car. When you are faced with a problem, you don’t cling on to it, but instead relax and float to solve the issue from a distance.
I can herd cats
Rounding up two children to leave the house can easily be compared to herding cats, or putting an octopus into a string bag. As soon as you’ve got one ready, the other decides they need a poop, or have to find that very important toy they’ve not played with for the past year but is now crucial to their very existence. One child willingly puts their own shoes on, the other will not, and if it’s suggested they might try, they take their coat off in protest.
Sigh.
I’ll bet you have this super power too, if you’ve got even one child.
I have incredible strength
I have physical strength, and lots of it. I can carry a toddler all around Thailand for nearly a month because someone told us we’d be crazy to take a pushchair.
I have a strong sense of humour. This, I think, needs to be pretty strong because it’s easy to lose your sense of humour in day-in-day-out caring for children without a break.
In addition to these skills I also think I’m definitely very strong in the ‘love and affection’ department, I have no doubt my children will grow up knowing they were always unconditionally loved and cared for. I think that’s what determines the strength of a parent. You don’t have to be perfect to be a “good” parent; it’s not about playing with your kids all the time, or cooking meals with 5 veggies that they magically eat. It’s about that unconditional love that you have for your child.
I have fantastic sidekicks
I couldn’t do it without my main sidekick, who has his own parenting superpowers that makes us a dynamic duo. And of course my two little super hero squad members, who have amazing skills and attributes I hope develop into brilliant super humans.
npower have sent Peter and Emily Andre off around the country to seek out unique individuals who are parenting with amazing superpowers – people with upbeat, interesting and engaging stories related to caring for babies and/or young children.

You certainly are a superhero! Who needs the gym when you can carry a toddler around Thailand eh? Love your sidekicks and their outfits too x
Thank you! The t-shirts are from the brilliant North East company Rusks and Rebels. x
Great post! I think all mams and dads are superheroes. Parenthood is a hard job that requires strength of body and mind ha ha!!
I totally agree! Parenting demands superpowers!
You are totally a superhero managing both those boys on your own at the disco the other day! This is such a great campaign. Parents do have superpowers. Mine is Magic kisses and boob milk!
Thanks, all in a day’s work 🙂 Thanks again for inviting us. James has told everyone at preschool about it!
Those are excellent superpowers!
Love it – mine is negotiating skills after splitting my two up more times than I care to mention!
Oh goodness me yes; I’m totally with you on that parenting superpower, unfortunately. They fight over the littlest thing then they’re straight back to snuggling together like nothing was the matter. Until the next time…
What a fab set of superpowers! I’ve discovered the ability to do lots of things one handed! x
OOH GREAT SUPER POWERS. I have quite a few myself. 🙂 Anyone who parents is a super hero.
