Our bedroom is looking a little bit meh at the moment. The colours that seemed so vibrant and happy in summer are a bit jarring in the cooler autumnal light. It’s not giving me nightmares but it isn’t quite in keeping with the season. For example our bed sheet is a bright lime green, and the duvet cover has teal, lime and burgundy on, which matches nicely with Noah’s bedding, but he’s not going to be in our room much longer, so I don’t need to match with him anymore.
I was approached by Yorkshire Linen to create my dream bedroom; I began to create a mood board to gather together items to make the space feel more cosy and ready for winter.
I wanted to create a cosy place to enjoy when winter makes the air crisper and chilly. I really like this Innsbruck Quilt set, because not only is the print rather cute but its also made of cosy flannelette, which will be so warm to snuggle into when the weather outside turns frosty. I’d pick a superking flannelette sheet as well to really feel properly cosy!
I’d also like to throw a few sheepskins on the floor and get rid of our grotty rug. I saw a few hacks on how to sew the skins together to make a really luxurious effect, and who wouldn’t want to step out of the bed onto fluffy heaven every morning?!
Lighting can play a big part in a bedroom, and we’ve got under-wardrobe lights that I do like to switch on to make the bedroom cosy. The main light bulb can often be too harsh for getting ready for bed, so softer lighting like from these little stars, would really do the trick.
I’m slowly replacing our houseplants; we travel too often to look after them properly, but I have a fabulous lavender plant outside, which has survived with minimal watering or any fuss. So a lavender plant would be a great addition to our bedroom – not only do they look good and are calming, but they’ll survive neglect!
When we stay with American friends, I always appreciate the way their beds are ‘made’. There are usually a bajillion pillows on, and I love that idea to make a cosy space to cuddle up in when the weather is wet and miserable outside.
I like these cushions from Yorkshire Linen:
Now I just need a lovely pair of cosy slippers to pad around in!
