Geosafari Kidnoculars Extreme
As soon as we took these binoculars out of the box we realised that they are pretty cool! These child-friendly binoculars are colourful, lightweight and durable (I can attest to this, as they have been dropped accidentally quite a few times!)
For children aged five and older, they promote STEM-based scientific observation of nature and animals.
My boys couldn’t wait to try them out, and as soon as they were out of the box, James was out and about looking at things far away. The Kidnoculars Extreme encourage children to use both sight and sound with focus-free vision up to 3x magnification and built-in audio amplification.
As you can see from the photo above they come with a breakaway strap for safety. Unfortunately this comes in three parts, and the third section is completely separate from the binoculars if it is snapped off. At some point during our walk the connectors have come apart and we have lost the middle piece of the strap! So, I would look out for that; a thin black string is very hard to find if you are retracing your steps in a grassy field!
The Kidnoculars Extreme need 2 AAA batteries, and they are not included in the box. You will need a small screwdriver to open the compartment to place the batteries inside. The Kidnoculars need one more piece of assembly straight out of the box – the microphone cover is separate but quickly clicks on securely. You can see it in the photo below right at the top of the binoculars.
Kidnoculars Extreme are focus free, which means they have 3 x magnification without twiddling dials to stop the image being blurred. They just work!
The built-in audio amplification helps kids to hear what they are looking at. The sound comes through the holes in the arms of the binoculars. James was looking at horses and said, “Did you hear what they said?!” but of course I didn’t!
These all-in-one binoculars are perfectly sized for young explorers and are available from Learning Resources and Amazon.
