About a year ago Rob brought home a fire fighter jacket and helmet for James. He wore the outfit once and then abandoned it. Then I went to his preschool parent/teacher meeting and was told one of his absolute favourite things is to role play being a fireman. Weird, huh?!
So I dug out the fire fighter outfit again and put it out and this morning we had a wander to the park.
He had such a great time putting out fires as we went down the street.
I told him there was a fire at the park and he ran down the longest straightest road to get there quickly. It was so cute seeing him run along all dressed in his emergency worker gear!
When we arrived at the playground he checked out his mission in the station before making sure there were no fires on any of the pieces of equipment.
My favourite moment in this trip to the playground was when James was in the swings and I was pushing him. Noah was on my back – the playground is so muddy and his toddling is not up to a trip in the park yet. As I pushed James Noah was laughing and laughing with each push. Such a wonderful sound and I’m blessed that Noah laughs so often and so freely.
Does your child like to dress up in role play? Do you join in?
Ah how cute! My three love to dress up too!

What a lovely way to transform a trip to the park, dressing up and role play is such an essential part of growing up for children, we have 2 big boxes of dressing up clothes here for mini adventures on the farm. It’s lovely to see them being used. Your fireman looks just the part and that moment in the swing sounds like a very special moment in parenting. Happy New Year Helena and thank you for linking up to the first Country Kids of 2016
He really suits the outfit and it looks like he had great fun wearing it as well. Lovely day out
Thanks, yes he had a brilliant time wearing his fire fighter outfit, while putting out so many fires!
Aw, how cute is he in his fire fighting outfit! I love that it’s a proper jacket that will keep him cosy when he puts out fires too. Children are really funny when they do things at pre-school but not at home. Maybe he just gets so much dressing up at pre-school that he isn’t interested at home. O does lots of messy play, painting and baking with me at home, but his pre-school say that he is never interested in painting or baking there (although he will always eat the biscuits and cakes they make). I think it’s because he can do it at home and just concentrates on the toys he doesn’t have when at pre-school. It looks like he had so much fun being a firefighter at the park, and great that Noah had lots of fun too! We haven’t managed a park visit this year yet, been too wet. Thanks so much for linking up to #Whatevertheweather 🙂 x
It’s so funny isn’t it? James absolutely will not eat soup at home, but at nursery, he’ll gobble down a bowl of pea and ham – no questions asked (except, “can I have more, please?”). Crazy indeed.
Yeah, the parks round here are very soggy. It’s been a necessity, though – got to have some outdoor air!!
Thanks for hosting xx
Awwww this is so adorable!!!!! I love the little outfit and so funny that it’s his favourite thing at school but he never does it at home. What a beautiful little trip to the park. Hearing them laugh and enjoying themselves is so magical isn’t it. Thank you so much for linking your adventures to #whatevertheweather. xx
