We went to the Blue Reef Aquarium today. This was our first visit with Rob, and the first time James has actually shown an interest in almost every tank. Usually he dashes around, checks out the degu and then peddles off to the playground area.
However, Daddy is very exciting and I guess whatever Daddy likes, James likes too? I’m not sure, but it was nice to go the aquarium and the actual visit take longer than the journey there.
Today, as ever, he did love to see the degu. Rob couldn’t understand the draw to the eleven rodents in the tank when there are little monkeys and frogs nearby. He kept calling James over, but James was clear, “I see the degu FIRST”. I don’t know why the last word of his sentences have to be emphasised these days, but apparently they do, so there you go.
The seals were being fed, which was a really good show. The trainers are informative and entertaining each time we visit. This time Rob commented how young they all are.
Then we dashed round the corner to the playground, past the chickens. The chickens are there to lay eggs for the monkeys and otters to eat. One had escaped!
James was so excited by this chicken (is it a chicken? Or a hen? Hens lay eggs, right? So it’s a hen. Except this one has a comb on its head. So is it a rooster? I’m uneducated in birds, it seems). He just wanted to see it, and kept running at it. The bird held its ground, until I’m the end it pecked James on the trainer. Twice. James shouted, puzzled, “the chicken bit my shoe!” We asked James to go inside. He ran at the chicken again instead. The chicken pecked him on the trouser.
We didn’t hear about much else all the way home!
