18 photos of our holiday in Benalmadena, Costa del Sol

We visited my mum in Benalmadena, Costa del Sol, in Spain for a week over the school holidays. We spent lots of time in the parks, splashing in puddles, and some time indoors doing drawing and watching movies. We had two days out, firstly to the Mariposario in Benalmadena, and secondly to Malaga on the train.

During our day out to Malaga, we walked up the ramps and steps to Castillo de Gibralfaro. We had the pushchair with us, and Rob shoved it up the steep ramps to the top! Noah fell asleep half way up, such is life as a three year old. As soon as I took over pushing the stroller, he woke. I had tried to make sure he didn’t fall out, but obviously buckling him in some how woke him. No matter – he loved running around the walls with James, which he wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise!

These guys loved running along the castle walls. They made up a game as they ran, which involved shouting a magic chant every time they needed to climb up or down.

 

We went for plenty of walks along the promenade next to the beach in Benalmadena. The floor tiles are much loved by the boys, and they invent little stories and games to go past the creatures or vehicles.

One day I’ll pull together a collection of all the flower photos I take whenever I go anywhere. Even leaving my own house for a little stroll I end up with hundreds of flower snaps.

We escaped the rain for a while by visiting the Mariposario or Butterfly Centre, in Benalmadena. It’s housed in a Thai temple. A bell sounded whenever there was to be a educational talk. We learned that the butterfly chrysalis hang in the window until they hatch. Look at the golden chrysalis! When the butterflies have hatched, they wait for 4-5 hours while they dry out, and then fly off into the room, where they live for 2-3 weeks.

The boys were given a sheet and pencil, with photos of the various kinds of butterflies that can be seen in the mariposario. After the boys finished the hunt for butterflies, they were rewarded with a blue-heart lollipop.

James has been learning how to fold paper aeroplanes during his Easter holidays. His homework from school was to learn something! We tried learning to whistle first, but he couldn’t settle to just make the noise with his mouth and not his voice. However, he’s really enjoyed making, adjusting, and decorating paper aeroplanes.

The parks in Benalmadena are fantastic. This is in Park Pocoyo, and we’ve spent hours here this past week!

Paloma Park is full of chickens, roosters, chicks, and rabbits! They all roam free around the park.
